Every woman who has ever given birth knows what a life changing experience it is, and it often comes together with a broad range of emotions and feeling. Given the hormonal changes that occur during this time, it's easy to see why there are often problems after the child is born. Therefore women have a high chance to suffer from postpartum depression.
Many women will suffer from some kinds of depression after childbirth. Feelings of how their life has changed and doubts about the child's health are often the cause of depression, chiefly if it is their first child. In many cases, these thoughts will subside after a couple of weeks, when the routine of parenting sets in. It's commonly not considered postpartum depression unless the depression symptoms continue for longer than two or three weeks.
